Lion cubs are between 0-2 years old. A female lion gives birth to 1-6 cubs per litter and generally hide them for about 8 weeks. Cubs are born with a spotted coat and blue-grey eyes which change to amber after 2-3 months. The spots fade with age. Males develop their mane at around 6 months old. Usually several lionesses will share in caring for the cubs and in teaching hunting and stalking for about a year, though cube rely on adults for food for at least two years.
